Demanding immediate relief to the farmers who suffered heavy loss due to the heavy rain, TDP MLAs and leaders under the aegis of the district unit of Telugu Desam Party laid siege to the Collectorate here on Thursday.
TDP MLAs Motkupalli Narasimhulu, Alimineti Uma Madhava Reddy, V Chandar Rao and other leaders participated in the demonstration.
Motkupalli Narasimhulu heavily coming down on the government said that the farmers have so far not received any relief. He demanded Rs. 20,000 per hectare to the cotton farmers, Rs. 10,000 for paddy farmers, Rs. 5 lakh ex gratia to the family members of persons who died in floods and Rs. 5,000 per sheep to the shepherds.
He lambasted the ministers and the ruling party MLAs for not helping the farmers after visiting the flood-affected areas. “The chief minister is busy making rounds to Delhi,” he added.
Uma Madhava Reddy said that it was evident that the government was in deep slumber.
After staging the dharna before the Collectorate, the TDP activists tried to gatecrash the Collectorate. The police have taken them into custody and shifted to the police station.
Stating the arrests undemocratic, TDP district president Bilya Naik exhorted people of the district to observe bandh on Friday. All the three MLAs from the district and in-charge persons of the constituencies have participated in the Chalo Collectorate programme setting aside the personal differences.
