Well-known actor Amanchi Venkata Subrahmanyam, 56, popularly known as AVS, passed away due to a critical illness on Friday evening. The actor, who had suffered from liver problems earlier, had collapsed at an awards presentation function in Hyderabad on October 12 and was rushed to Global Hospitals, Hyderabad, where he was undergoing treatment for liver and kidney dysfunction.
According to hospital sources, the infection had attacked other organs in his body and he was on ventilator support till Friday afternoon. His body was brought to his home in Manikonda. His body will be kept at Film Chamber on Saturday morning for the public to pay their last respects. The last rites will be performed on Saturday morning at Punjagutta cremation grounds.
He is survived by wife Asha, son Raghavendra Pradeep and daughter Sri Prashanti.

Recently he became busy and was irregular in his health check-ups at the hospital and did not use medicines properly. This affected his health severely,” said a source close to Global Hospitals.
The actor who has acted in more than 400 films shot to fame with Bapu’s ‘Mr Pellam’. He is also credited with introducing Mani Sharma under his directorial ‘Super Heroes’. He had also written, produced and directed ‘Ori Ni Prema Bangaram Kanu’, ‘Kotimooka’, ‘Roommates’. Some of his best known films were ‘Yamaleela’, ‘Vinodam’ and ‘Shubhalagnam’.
He started his journalistic career as a stringer at Tenali for ‘Udayam’ daily and then moved to ‘Andhra Jyothy’ as a staff reporter in Ongole.
He then got introduced to director Bapu and his associate Mullapudi Venakataramana who paved way for his debut in Telugu film industry. He has been contributing humour pieces for Andhra Jyothy edit page for the last several years.
CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and Speaker Nadendla Manohar expressed their condolences.
