The remarks made by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy saying that Telangana would suffer more than Seemandhra and that he does not care for his post have come in for sharp criticism from T Congress and TRS leaders. Reacting to Kiran’s argument that division would lead to more expenditure and loss of revenue for both States and that the problem of Naxalism would rise its ugly, T Congress leaders said that Kiran’s days were numbered. They demanded that the high command take stern action against Kiran for utilising government programmes like Rachabanda for campaigning against Telangana. Former minister Shabbir Ali said that Chief Minister instead of thundering here should go to New Delhi and argue his case before the high command. There was no point in shouting from various platforms in the State when the Centre was going ahead with bifurcation. He said the Chief Minister not only went against the spirit of the Constitution but also insulted his own cabinet colleague P Balaraju by not inviting him for the Rachabanda programme.

Congress MPs S Rajaiah and Ponnam Prabhakar from New Delhi said that Kiran was turning into an autocrat. Apart from going against the decision of the party high command, he was even clearing files without consulting the concerned ministers. They said Kiran should stop worrying about the likely loss Telangana would suffer if divided. People of Telangana know how to tackle the problems, they added. TRS leader T Harish Rao said that Kiran was instigating Seemandhra people and was working against the Constitution. TRS leader K T Rama Rao said that the comments of Chief Minister were meaningless. “When Andhra people got separated from Madras State, they said it was to protect their self-respect. Now why is he unable to understand that this is also a case of self-respect of Telangana people?” Rao questioned.
