Telangana turmoil: AP Bifurcation Will Divide People, Hit Sentiments. The unique status of Andhra Pradesh in deciding the fate of national political parties to get into power has been a curse to its own people.

The unique status of Andhra Pradesh in deciding the fate of national political parties to get into power has been a curse to its own people. Assimilating politicians who represent 42 Lok Sabha constituencies never did any greater good to this state, but led to political turmoil merely to accomplish selfish pursuits of a few politicians. The British taught the unique methodology of ‘Divide & Rule’ to Indian political parties with such vigour that even after 66 years of their departure the influence still remains on our administration.

Like most states in India, Andhra Pradesh too is a blend of diverse cultures, rich heritage and disparate dialects. Although there were demands for separation of geographical regions in the history way back, they were denounced by leaders like Indira Gandhi to accomplish certain tasks that reap greater benefit for people.
Ironically, political heir of the same leader brought back the concept of ‘statehood of Telangana’ to gain political advantage over ruling Telugu Desam party in the year of 1999. Eventually, the Indian National Congress came to power in 2004 by including sanction of the statehood of Telangana in their 2004 manifesto.
As the years passed, every political party saw Telangana issue as a stepping stone for success in the elections. Back in 2009, every political party came up with pro- Telangana proposals. TRS and other JAC organisations kindled the fire in students with fake promises of job and a colourful future which led to the suicides of 1200 students in favour of separate statehood movement of Telangana. Hunger strikes and road blockades from pro-Telangana groups resulted in declaration of the initiation of the process of sanctioning statehood to Telangaana by the UPA-2 on December 9, 2009 which eventually led to opposition from people of rest of the state (Seemandhra).
UPA was very much successful in fading the image of rising opposition using Telangana issue by pointing to opposition party TDP as the root cause for the decision of statehood in Seemandhra region and expanding its own image in Telangana region with its statehood sanction. UPA’s plan of gaining majority seats in Telangana by granting it separate statehood and in Seemandhra through its subsidiary YSRCP who recently ran into public with ‘Samikyandhra’ (United Andhra) slogan symbolizes the epitome of political mastermind of the UPA. At the same time the move exemplifies crooked posture of a political party putting the future of millions of people at stake.
Andhra Pradesh is not a cake to cut into segments of equal. Merely drawing a boundary line between two regions can’t divide the state, one has to divide sentiments, benefits of growth, debt and most importantly people in it. The heart of the state, Hyderabad, has been a destination for millions of Telugu people for their livelihood. All the debts made till now in favour of Andhra Pradesh are totally used to develop Hyderabad thus making it a golden duck which lay eggs of immense benefit every day. Every politician’s concern about fate of Hyderabad reflects their desire to hold on to the golden duck of Andhra Pradesh.
Is division an ultimate solution to the problems of a region? What greater good have Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chattisgarh achieved post partition? If we keep on dividing a region just because of the existing problems, India should have every district in the form of a state for so-called better governance. Wake up politicians, if this current situation continues, we will soon see a mass movement of ordinary citizens on roads just like it happened in Egypt which shall lead to an entrenched apocalypse.
