RTA plans to propose amendments to the Central Act

Hyderabad: The AP State Road Transport Authority (APSRTC) is firm on proposing amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act in order to curb illegal operation of buses and other heavy vehicles.

The Authority seeks crackdown on negligent driving that has been claiming many lives in the State.

Speaking at a road safety workshop on Tuesday, Transport Commissioner G Ananta Ramu said that the department was focusing on lodging more number of criminal cases against bus drivers and operators for negligence.
“We wrote to the Central Road Transport Department to bring in amendments in the Central Motor Vehicle Act,” he said.
He informed that the department had also sought other amendments including refreshment classes on safe driving for heavy vehicle drivers twice a year at authorised institutes.
