Hyderabad: Following the rape incident of a 22-year-old techie in the city’s IT corridor, in a bid to provide safe and secure transportation to the IT professionals, APSRTC launched 40 special buses on Tuesday.
The Cyberabad police also plan to implement a few measures in the IT hub for the safety of 50,000 IT employees working in the corridor.
Speaking at the launch, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said that in association with the IT Security Council (formed by the association of IT companies, police and other government agencies), they would introduce an effective monitoring system on unauthorised transport system in the area. “Autos and cabs will be allowed in the area, only if they possess the identity sticker which will be given by us after through identification. Further, they will also be asked to display name and identity of driver and vehicle owner in the vehicle,” he said.
Also, more number of check-posts and CCTV cameras would be installed, he said. “After proper examination, the police have identified five vulnerable points in the area. These areas will be under constant watch. In addition to the existing police personnel in place, an additional strength of 80 constables will be deployed. Further, five patrolling vans will make regular rounds in the area. Even Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has promised to provide us with patrol vans to keep watch on Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch,” informed C V Anand.
APSRTC Managing Director and Vice-Chairman A K Khan said that in view of safety of the IT professionals, the buses would run till late in the night. Operation of each bus in the area would cost Rs 10,000 per day for the corporation and it will amount to a total expenditure of Rs 1.2 crore per month, said RTC officials.
APIIC Executive Director Venkat Reddy, APSRTC and police officials also spoke on the occasion.
