Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday presented “The India Power Awards- 2013” to the Discoms and the officials who excelled in discharging their duties.
The State-owned power generation company AP Genco bagged the India Power Award under overall utility performance. Genco’s MD K Vijayanand and former Joint MD D Prabhakara Rao received ‘CEO of the year (State Thermal-2013)’ and ‘Finance and Revenue Management -2013 Award’ respectively.
Handing over the awards at a function, Chief Minister said that the Genco was planning to add 4,520 MW thermal capacity by installing four 800 MW units, one each at Vijayawada, Kothagudem, Krishnapatnam and Bhoopalapally and 2 x 660 MW plant at Ramagundam to meet future power requirement of the State.
The Genco is the single largest power generating company of the State with total installed capacity of 8,924.9 MW.
Taking a strong dig at the Centre and its policies, Kiran said that the lopsided policies adopted by the Union government with regard to supply of gas pushed the gas-based power plants into problems.
“State could generate 9 million units power as against the demand of 10 million units. The pending river water disputes with the riparian States also hindered the hydel power generation in the state,” he said.
Observing that the State achieved surplus power status in 1970s, the Chief Minister also said that lack of advanced technology in utilising coal affected thermal power generation.
