Hyderabad: A day ahead of the crucial special Union Cabinet meeting, the pro- and anti-Rayala Telangana groups have intensified their lobbying in New Delhi.

Former PCC chief D Srinivas has left for Delhi on Sunday evening. Deputy Chief Minister C Damodara Rajanarasimha has been asked to be available in Delhi on Monday for consultations with the high command.

Rajanarasimha, who returned to Hyderabad on Sunday morning after meeting Union Ministers Jairam Ramesh and A K Antony on Saturday, will rush to the national capital on Monday morning. He and D Srinivas are likely to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi. TDP leaders under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu is slated to meet President Pranab Mukherjee this afternoon. Visalandhra Mahasabha activists and Vijayshanti, MP, would be in Delhi tomorrow.

According to sources, the high command wants to listen to the arguments of both sides on the issue before taking a final decision on whether or not to merge Kurnool and Ananatapur districts with Telangana. The sources said Srinivas and Rajanarasimha would oppose the proposal of Rayala Telangana. The leaders believe that it would lead to greater problems in passing the T Bill, and could spark another round of agitation in T region.

The TRS, TJAC and even the BJP are opposed to the proposal of Rayala Telangana.

It may be mentioned here that the TJAC leaders headed by Prof M Kodandaram are on their way to Delhi and will rally opposition to the Rayala Telangana move. The TJAC delegation traveling by train comprises 18 leaders. Some others are going to Delhi by flight on Monday.

State BJP president G Kishan Reddy on Sunday made it clear that BJP would not extend any support to Telangana Bill, if the Centre modified the resolution of Congress Working Committee which said that Telangana State would be formed with 10 districts with Hyderabad as its capital. He alleged that the Rayala Telangana proposal was moved by the Congress party through MIM only to delay the process of formation of Telangana.

TDP also opposes the move. Its leader KE Krishnamurty said that the official stand of TDP was equal justice to both the regions and not creation of Rayala Telangana. Only some Rayalaseema leaders, who had business interests or hold large tracts of land in Hyderabad, were demanding Rayala Telangana, he said.

Even Minister for Minor Irrigation T G Venkatesh opposes the move. The TRS has already stated that it is not in favour of any dilution of the CWC resolution. Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki Goud on Sunday said Rayala Telangana was an open and shut case. He said the move seemed to have some ulterior motive. He called upon T leaders to be alert and to counter any such move in Delhi.
Sources said that the proposal to form Rayala Telangana was included in the report prepared by the GOM and it was also discussed in the core committee meeting on Friday.
It was decided that both the proposals-one of Telangana State with ten districts and another of Rayala Telangana State with twelve districts- would be sent to the Cabinet for its decision. The decision of the Cabinet would be final as far as the UPA government is concerned.
The proposal of Rayala Telanagana was first mooted by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and supported by MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi. Among Rayalaseema leaders, Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Suryaprakasha Reddy openly expressed his support. He is understood to have mobilized resolutions of a number Grama Sabhas in support of the move to merge Kurnool with Telangana.
