Hyderabad: Doyen of Telugu Journalism Narla Venkateswara Rao brought journalism to the masses, said senior journalist Prof Varadachari. Delivering the eighteenth Narla Memorial Endowment Lecture on “Kaalam Marina Vaartha Viluvalu Maaravu” at BR Ambedkar University on Monday, Varadachari said Narla brought colloquial Telugu into newspaper journalism.
The lecture was organised by Dr BR Ambedkar Open University. Vice-chancellor of the university Dr P Prakash presided over the function. Prof. Varadachari said Narla took Telugu journalism from the smoke-filled drawing rooms to the grassroots. He thanked Narla family members for donating rare personal collection of his books to the university.

Prof N Venkata Narayana, Director (Academic), Dr BRAOU, introduced the speaker, while Prof A Sudhakar, Registrar, Dr BRAOU welcomed the gathering. Earlier, the chief guest and other dignitaries lighted the lamp to mark the inauguration of the lecture and visited the Narla Memorial Library on the campus. The lecture was attended by Narla family members, deans, directors and other members of the university.
