  • Cong dividing state for sake of votes

Hyderabad: In continuation of his campaign to drum up support for a united Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons, Jagan said, both Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi listened to him for over 45 minutes each and they felt the centre’s ‘unilateral’ decision to create Telangana was an important issue and it needs to be resolved amicably. He said, “Since I have been going round the country and meeting national and regional party leaders and mobilising their support to oppose Article 3 which is being misused by the Centre, the Congress has brought in Rayala Telangana issue by adding two more districts from Rayalseema so that it can get a simple majority in the Assembly,” he added. Congress has no clarity on what it is doing and wants to divide the state for the sake of votes and seats, Jagan said. The YSR party leader dared the Centre to hold 2014 elections before taking any decision on the division. The State should not be divided for the sake of political gains. The Assembly and people’s sentiments should be taken into consideration,he said.

The YSRCP president said, “Today it is Andhra, tomorrow it could be your state. Everyone who believes in democracy should support this cause (of a united Andhra Pradesh state),” he said. He claimed that the next year's Lok Sabha polls would be a 'referendum' on the bifurcation issue and said that his party will win 30 seats and decide the next Prime Minister of India.

Jagan had earlier called on the Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Odisha to make his case, even as it was unclear whether a bill for creation of separate Telangana would be brought in the winter session of Parliament, commencing on Thursday.
