Hyderabad: As part of the nation-wide campaign to mobilise support for the World’s tallest statue to be installed in Gujarat in memory of ‘Iron man of India’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the BJP will hold a 2-km run at People’s Plaza at Necklace Road here on December 15.
With the theme ‘Run for India, Run for Unity’, the Bharatiya Janata Party plans to hold the event across the country in 565 districts, which were united with India due to the efforts of Sardar Patel in the post Independent period.
The party’s leadership, including the Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi believes that Patel did not receive the deserved recognition in the history. Therefore, this effort would make people to learn more about his determination to see India united.
Financed by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rastriya Ekta Trust, the 182-meter statue will be installed on an island Sadhu-bet near Sardar Sarovar Project of Narmada river. This would be double the size of Statue of Liberty.
While releasing the poster of the event at the State Committee Meeting held on Wednesday former Union Minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao recalled how Sardar Patel fought for the rights of farmers under British rule. As he brought 565 districts under the Union of India, which otherwise would not have been possible with any of the leaders.
Describing the move to install the statue as a non-political move, he clarified that Trust was independently working for the cause.
