Hyderabad: In all, 309 prisoners were released from different jails in the State on Sunday. They include 76 life convicts from Cherlapally jail here. A total of 390 prisoners have been granted remission. The remaining 81 will be released after commuting their terms; the orders are yet to reach some of the jails.

The State government has issued an order, granting remission to them taking their good behavior into consideration on the recommendation of a standing committee. However, no important political prisoner has been extended this consideration. So is the case with Maoist leaders, including Ganesh, who had been hopeful of the remission.
Rajahmundry/Anantapur/ Warangal/Kadapa: After protracted wait of three years, 75 prisoners of Rajahmundry Central Prison, including two women, who completed of seven years of their life term for murder and three years of remission, were released on Sunday.
They heaved a sigh of relief, as release of prisoners was stopped in 2010 on various grounds. The prisoners were welcomed by anxious relatives waiting outside. They came out with the amounts earned. Among them 31 prisoners are aged over 65. This is the second highest number of released prisoners this year.
In Anantapur, 82 of the 150 prisoners were freed from the open air jail, Superintendent Lakshmipati said. Some were not released due to various reasons though they completed the term. They alleged that ‘serious criminals’ were released with political support.
Officials of the Warangal Central Prison freed 37 life convicts, following their good conduct, in connection with Gandhi Jayanti.
Superintendent Rajesh Kumar said 41 prisoners were eligible for the remission. P Rajeshwar, Md. Shanawaz and Naseem Khan were on parole, while Kommu Radha was released recently following court orders. They were also officially released after surrendering to the authorities.
Twenty-nine inmates of the Kadapa Central Prison were also freed. Of them 25, including a woman, were released on Saturday. While two were let off on parole, two others were waiting pending payment of penalty.
