Hyderabad: The 74th All India Industrial Exhibition - 2014 was inaugurated by Minister for Information Technology & Communications Ponnala Laxmaiah here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The exhibition has attained a national stature and has a rich history.”
In his brief address, Lakshmiah said like 1947, the year 2014 was also historical as the Telangana state was being created.
He recalled how the exhibition had grown by leaps and bounds over the years and acquired an all India stature now. Stating that Hyderabad was a happening city, he said it was the most sought after destination today. A number of international conferences were held in the city because of the transport and infrastructural development here. Lakshmiah complimented the Exhibition Society for utilising the revenue generated through the exhibition for the cause of education.
Earlier, Dr S Rajender, vice-president, Exhibition Society, welcomed the gathering. Society president Ashwin Margam proposed a vote of thanks. About 2,500 stalls spanning the spectrum from Central, State, Public Sector undertakings, corporate and multinational companies to small scale industries, handlooms and handicrafts are exhibiting their products.
Tight security
A three tier security arrangement has been put in place. A police stall, fire service station and a band of 200 volunteers have been posted. Outside security agencies have been deployed to oversee three entry points - Gandhi Bhavan, Ajantha gate and Goshamahal gate. Special PTZ cameras are being used to shoot the 46-day numaish proceedings and upload it so that people can view it live on internet.
Competitions such as rangoli, water colour painting, flower arrangement and garland making and mehendi will be conducted along with various cultural programmes in the 46 days.
