Anybody can stay in and contest from city

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Science and Technology S Jaipal Reddy said that once the Telangana State was formed it would become the only State in the country to have been formed after a prolonged struggle for over six decades.

So far there was no precedence of this kind in the history of India, he said. Reddy was speaking at the diary launch of Telangana Tahsildars here on Saturday.

Referring to the comment made by Chief Minister on Friday in the Assembly that he could contest and win from any constituency in Telangana, Reddy said everyone had the right to stay in Hyderabad and contest elections from any constituency. “The Seemandhra leaders are unnecessarily raking up various issues with regard to Hyderabad. I fail to understand why people from Seemandhra region are raising so many doubts about Hyderabad. They never had such doubts nor did they raise any objections when they launched the Jai Andhra movement in the past,’’ he pointed.

Speaking about the capital, he said Hyderabad had always been a Mahanagar and it had a distinct culture and attracts investments from across the globe.

Mentioning about the objections being raised with regard to the setting up of defence projects in Hyderabad, Jaipal Reddy described that as a strategic move. Normally, such institutions were located at places which were far away from ports, he added.

“Even after the formation of Telangana State, there would be no objection to anyone from any region if they decide to invest in the new State. But the new government would ensure that no industry gets huge lands as done so far,’’ the Union Minister stated.
