Mahabubnagar: Director-General of Police B Prasada Rao said on Saturday that more cases were being registering under the Nirbhaya Act following increased awareness among women.

Inaugurating the Shadnagar Rural Circle Inspector’s office and police station building at Pedda Mandadi mandal headquarters in Kothuru, he said ‘Rakshita Apps’ was launched to protect women against violence. Women facing threats could dial 119 for help and the phones would be connected to ‘Rakshita Apps.’

Rao took part in a large number of inaugurations and foundation-laying ceremonies in the district. Addressing the media, he said speed and rash driving were resulting in large number of accidents on the highways. Toll gates would be utilised to curb accidents and to check speed by recording it at the toll gates, he added.

The DGP launched ‘BEATS’ to strengthen the police beat system. He handed over cell phones to police constables, with which the SP and other officers can monitor movement of the beat constables.

Collector M Girija Shankar, IG Ravindranath Reddy, DIG Naveen Chand, SP D Nagendra Kumar and MLAs Prathap Reddy, Y Srinivas Reddy were present.
