Hyderabad: The State Assembly witnessed some embarrassing moments when the AIMIM protested that its members were unable to follow the speeches on draft T Bill in the Assembly as there was no simultaneous Urdu translation available.

Five MLAs of the MIM party trooped into well when the government whip Dronamraju Srinivas was delivering his speech on the T Bill. They argued with Speaker N Manohar that the members were not able to understand the Telugu speech.

MIM MLA Ahmed Pasha Khadri said it was a classic example how the State’s second official language was being treated in the august house. He questioned the Chair for not deputing Urdu translators when such an important Bill was under discussion.

He also pointed out that it was the responsibility of the Chair to furnish the translation copies to Urdu speaking members instantly to understand the speeches delivered in Telugu.

In a quick response, the Speaker said that arrangements were being made to provide translation copies to them immediately. With the assurance from the Chair, the MIM MLAs resumed their seats.

Jafri opposes portrayal of Nizam as a tyrant

The AIMIM on Wednesday took strong opposition to the portrayal of Nizam as a tyrant.

Participating in the debate on draft Telangana Bill in the Council, AIMIM member Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri held that the State was not unified solely on the basis of language but had other factors.

Referring to the First State Reorganisation Commisison, he said that unification of the State was influenced by disintegration of the province of Hyderabad. Jafri also opposed the clause in the draft Bill which says that Hyderabad would be common capital for 10 years.

His party opposed the proposal of giving excessive powers to the Governor after bifurcation as it would weaken the Telangana government, he added.
