Medaram Jaggery gets recycled in Guntur?

Medaram: As an offering, the devotees present jaggery in huge quantities to the deities - Sammakka and Sarakka at Medaram jatara (fair). The negotiators are not even leaving such offerings for their personal benefit. Unlike other temples, at Medaram only jaggery is offered. Few devotees offer jaggery equaling their weight and few others offer gold and silver studs and tickles.

With the intention of getting their offerings reach the deities directly few devotees throw these gold and silver studs and tickles. In this process, these ornaments get mixed up with the jaggery. The devotees in lakhs in number offer so much of jaggery and studs. The area is cleaned at regular intervals to ensure proper view of deities to the devotees.

The jaggery being removed from the area of deities along with the gold and silver studs and tickles mixed in it have been transported allegedly to Seemandhra districts, especially to Guntur by few brokers.

It is learnt that they have been helped by the committee members of the temple in this entire process. As many as 10 Lorries of jaggery is being transported everyday since the beginning of the fair at Medaram.

The tribal people have been complaining of this issue to the authorities but to no avail. When inquired about the same, the local MLA Seethakka said it was brought into her notice and an immediate action will be initiated through the district collector.
