Damodaram Sanjivayya Remembered. Damodaram Sanjivayya Memorial Trust on Friday celebrated 93rd birth anniversary of Damodaram Sanjivayya, the first Dalit Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad: Damodaram Sanjivayya Memorial Trust on Friday celebrated 93rd birth anniversary of Damodaram Sanjivayya, the first Dalit Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao said that Sanjivayya was a man of integrity who rose to great heights from a small village in Kurnool district. “If there is a figure that we all need to emulate, it is Damodaram Sanjivayya. I will try my best to see his statue adorns Parliament,” he said.

Ministers J Geeta Reddy and Pithani Satyanarayana released two books on the occasion. Geeta Reddy said that Sanjivayya always worked for the betterment of the poor. Reflecting on the times spent with former Chief Minister, Mallikarjun Sarma, a Congress party worker, went down memory lane by sharing an interesting episode; T Prakasam Pantulu was once travelling in a train and Damodaram Sanjivayya too was in the same train. When Prakasam Pantulu wanted to share the same coach with him his joy knew no bounds, he said.

Sanjivayya was born in a poor Dalit family in Peddapadu village of Kallur mandal in Kurnool district. He went on to become the Chief Minister and also was twice elected as president of All India Congress Committee and served as Union Minister for Industry and Labour.
