New Delhi: AICC General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Digvijay Singh on Monday declared that TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao has committed himself to the merger of the TRS with the Congress, after the creation of Telangana. Rao has met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. Preliminary discussions were held on the issue of merger of TRS with the Congress, he said.
Interacting with media persons, Digvijay Singh said that separate PCCs will soon be constituted, one each for Telangana and Seemandhra, respectively.
He said that both the States of Telangana and residuary State of Andhra Pradesh will be formalised shortly. The Ministry of Home Affairs has to take necessary steps to expedite the process, he said.
Digvijay Singh appealed to all the Congressmen, who left the party for one reason or the other, to come back to the Congress fold. Even the case of the expelled MPs will be considered sympathetically, if they are willing to come back, he said. Regretting that Kiran Reddy failed to act as a statesman, after being elected by the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) with MLAs of both Telangana and Seemandhra, Digvijay Singh said that Kiran Reddy had quit the Congress on his own and he was not expelled. Significantly, he had a good word about Kiran Reddy for his role both as Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker and as Chief Minister, barring his role on the Telangana issue. Andhra Pradesh, under Kiran Reddy, was awarded for good governance ahead of Gujarat at the India Today Summit, he said.
Meanwhile, KCR met President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday, along with a party delegation. Rao said the President complimented him on achieving his goal of separate Telangana.
The President extended his good wishes for the bright and prosperous future for Telangana.
Concluding his stay in the capital, Rao is all set to return to Hyderabad on Wednesday. Rao had earlier in the day met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
It is learnt that the issues relating to a possible merger or alliance of the TRS with the Congress figured.
