Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde chaired the meeting, which was attended by Union Defence Minister A K Antony and Union Rural Defence Minister Jairam Ramesh. The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress made so far by the Centre as well as the measures required to be initiated to resolve all issues, before the Appointed Date of June 2, when the two States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh come into being. Jairam explained that efforts are being made to resolve most of the contentious issues by June 2 to ensure that bifurcation takes place smoothly. As part of this, the State government has already set up a State Re-organisation Division headed by a Special Chief Secretary, and the Chief Secretary has been given extension to facilitate the bifurcation process. The Governor has been requested to approach the Chief Justice of India for setting up a new High Court in Andhra Pradesh. “The Centre is very serious on the bifurcation process. The State Governor and the State Chief Secretary are doing a meticulous and professional job,” Jairam said.

While the Centre is doing all it could, the State has set up 19 panels and given the deadline of March 31 to them to submit reports to the Chief Secretary. Only after that, follow-up action on the recommendations will commence. "A special unit has also been set up in the Planning Commission to deal with the special development needs of Seemandhra or Andhra Pradesh," he said. A consultant has also been appointed for the purpose; he will function under the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
