Kishan Reddy seeks postal ballots for home guards, scribes

Hyderabad: The Telangana unit BJP president, G Kishan Reddy, on Sunday demanded that the Election Commission should permit the home guards who were on election duty to cast postal ballot.

At a press conference, he said, around 45,000 home guards who are working with the police department were used to man the polling stations, sadly they weren’t allowed to vote, not even postal ballot. This, he said, was an act of denial of fundamental rights.

He said that he had sent a letter to the Central Election Commission in this regard and requested the Governor and state Election Commissioner to look into the matter. He also demanded the Election Commission should extend the same facility to the journalists, who have been covering the polls. He demanded the election commission to allow the facility of the postal ballot to the accredited journalists who were on poll duty.

Kishan Reddy said that he had written a letter to governor requesting him to look into the sand mafia that was wreaking havoc in Siricilla. In Siricilla, BJP candidate Akula Vijaya’s husband Mohan Reddy, is a social worker and has been raising voice against the sand mafia. Recently, he met with an accident and was severely injured. His car was hit by speeding lorry carrying sand. This was the second time he was attacked, Reddy said.

Replying to a question, Kishan Reddy said that he would campaign for Modi in Varanasi from May 7. Varanasi has a sizeable number of Telugu-speaking population. He said he was familiar with the city of Varanasi as he had visited the place many times as All India BJP Yuva Morcha president in the past, he added.
