Hyderabad: The review meeting conducted by the Telangana PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah to ascertain the winning prospects of the party at Gandhi Bhavan turned ugly on Monday.

Former union minister and Congress candidate for Mahabubabad Lok Sabha constituency P Balram Naik and the party candidate from Narsampet Assembly segment K Venkataswamy had heated exchange of words. While Balram Naik alleged that Venkataswamy did not cooperate with him during poll management which resulted in losing good number of votes, Venkataswamy said that the former minister tried to sabotage his chances.

In the middle of the meeting, Venkataswamy complained against Naik to the PCC chief and alleged that he was not consulted in organising party meetings and rallies in his constituency. Angry over the JAC leader’s remarks, Naik retorted strongly and said ‘he does not have to consult the person who was not a member of his party.’ As the tempers went high, the PCC chief intervened and placated the two leaders.

Venkataswamy, who is the JAC leader, was allotted party ticket from Narsampet which falls under the jurisdiction of the ST reserved Mahabubabad Lok Sabha segment in Warangal district.

Later, speaking to newsmen, Lakshmaiah said that the meeting, attended by party contestants and some senior leaders, reviewed the prospects of the party in the election. He exuded confidence that Congress would win majority seats and form the government on its own. The PCC leader also said that his party would not forge any alliance with TRS in post poll scenario.

Referring to the predications that TRS would emerge as single largest party and will form the first government in Telangana, he said the TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao was playing ‘mind game’ from his farmhouse over coming to power in the new State.

He also took on the TRS chief for the latter’s statements that the Telangana was created because of the TRS only. Without Congress, the formation of Telangana would have remained a distant dream, the PCC chief added.
