Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehad ul Muslimeen (MIM) on Thursday ruled out the possibility of joining the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government but said that it was ready to extend issue-based support.
This was stated by MIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi after meeting TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao at his residence on Thursday.
This meeting assumes importance as speculations were rife that MIM was bargaining for the post of Deputy Chief Minister for Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Talking to the media, Asaduddin said, “We are not interested in occupying important posts of power. We are only interested to see development takes place.”
The Hyderabad MP submitted a detailed plan for the development of the city of Hyderabad. He asked the TRS to revive the Rs 2,075 crore Old City package sanctioned by the YSR government and release of funds for works on sewerage lines.
The MIM also suggested that the Telangana government’s emblem should carry the picture of historic Charminar.
The leaders urged KCR to declare Urdu as the second official language of Telangana State. They hoped that the Telangana government would take all necessary steps to protect the lives and properties of the minorities.
They also asked KCR to scrap the GHMC and to revive the old municipal corporation. He was of the opinion that the areas constituting parts of erstwhile municipalities in Rangareddy and Medak districts should be formed into new municipalities or smaller municipal corporations.
The party also expressed its reservations over entrusting law and order of Hyderabad to the Governor who would be in charge for both the States. It supported continuation of zonal system under the Presidential Order (Article 371 D, which is being continued under the AP Regularisation Act). It also favoured realignment of Metro Rail passing through Old City, as the eastern side is already served by MMTS.
