Hyderabad: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is likely to get the status of a recognised political party in Andhra Pradesh.

The three-year-old registered party has polled 28.9 per cent votes in the undivided State and emerged as the second biggest party after the TDP by winning 70 MLAs and nine MP seats. As per the guidelines prescribed by the Election Commission (EC), a party which gets more than six per cent of the total polled votes in a State gets recognised opposition party status.

Party leaders said that they have already written to the EC urging it to declare it as recognised political organisation. A delegation led by senior party leader and MP Rajamohan Reddy will soon meet the EC officials to speed up the process.
