Hyderabad: Two persons were dead and at least 10 injured, one critically, in LPG cylinders blast at Nimboliadda near Kachiguda on Saturday evening. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital. According to fire officials, the explosion occurred around 7.30 pm, possibly due to accidental gas leakage from the cylinders which were illegally used in refilling mini cylinders. Fire spread soon and reduced four houses to ashes within no time. Panic spread in the area.

"Prima facie, it seems that unscientific handling of the cylinders led to the incident. We have launched a detailed investigation. We have registered a case of accidental fire under Section 174 of CrPC," cops said. The blast has once again brought to the fore the brazen misuse of LPG cylinders to refill mini cylinders. The fraud came to light after fire broke out in the area. “It is an unorganised sector and the fraud that came to light at Nimboliadda could just be the tip of an iceberg,” cops said.

Three fire tenders from Musheerabad, Moulali and Malakpet were pressed into service and the blaze was brought under control in three hours. Police said this was the third major accident involving LPG cylinders in the area in the last couple of years. Home minister, Nayani Narsimha Reddy, DGP Anurag Sharma, and City Commissioner M Mahender Reddy visited the spot and supervised the rescue and fire fighting operations. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Chief minister-designate Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu offered condolences to the bereaved families.
