Hyderabad: The TRS government, on Saturday, announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for kin of 24 engineering students, who were swept away in Beas River during an industrial tour of Himachal Pradesh State. Making this announcement in Assembly on Saturday, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said the government had left no stone unturned in search operations at the mishap site.

Moving resolution to this effect in the House, KCR said he came to know about the tragedy at 9 pm on June 8, while he was chairing a Cabinet meeting. He said he had immediately directed Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy and two senior officials to rush to Himachal Pradesh and personally oversee search operations. He further informed the House about steps being taken by the government to take victims’ families from Hyderabad to Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, besides arrangements made to shift dead bodies of students immediately to Hyderabad as and when they were found. Later the House observed two minutes silence in memory of the dead.
