Visakhapatnam: AP State president of BJP and MP K Haribabu found fault with the leaders of Telangana for opposing the passage of the Bill in Parliament transferring seven mandals of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh to ease construction of project.

Addressing newsmen here on Sunday the MP wondered as to how could the T-leaders oppose the Bill saying it was against the Constitution as the AP Reorganisation Act was also passed under the same Article 3 of the Constitution to create Telangana.

He took strong exception to statement of the former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy who opposed the ordinance as it was actually approved by the UPA-II Cabinet in which he was also a member. “Why he kept mum when it was approved by the then Union Cabinet and there was no meaning in opposing it now after losing power,” he maintained. “Politicians should not demand to change the design of Polvaram project as it was the job of engineering and technical experts. Those demanding the change in the design to approach the engineering experts,” he suggested.

Appealing to the State Government to complete Polavaram project he said, “About one lakh acres of land would be irrigated in Khammam through Polavaram. It could also generate power benefitting Chhattisgarh and Odisha.” He exuded confidence that the Union Government will extend all possible help and funds after the State government submits proposals for the new capital. When asked about the Vizag Railway Zone, he replied that the committee appointed for the separate zone in AP would submit its report by December and hoped that Vizag would get the zone.

MLA P Vishnukumar Raju, city president P V Narayana Rao, State vice-president B Rangamohana Rao and ex-city president M Nagendra were also present.
