Among those arrested are Nimmala Seenu, one of the MLA’s main followers, Kothana Raviprasad and Krishna. The police registered a case against the arrested person under sections 356, 114, 506 and 149 of IPC.

The kidnap followed alleged collection of lakhs of rupees by Reddy promising jobs to some residents of Eluru and surrounding areas. When he failed to provide employment, the victims approached the legislator.

According to the police, Reddy had become friendly with one Raviprasad of Chintalapudi while working in a consultancy firm in Hyderabad. He had collected Rs 20 lakh from Raviprasad and others. He provided jobs to two persons, but failed in the case of some others. When questioned, Reddy returned Rs 4 lakh and stalled payment of the balance amount.In frustration, Raviprasad approached the Deputy Mayor, who allegedly summoned Reddy to Eluru, held a private panchayat and snatched a gold ring and an ATM card from him. The Deputy Mayor and the MLA’s followers allegedly kidnapped Reddy, severely beat him after detaining at several places in the town, holding out threats to kill if he failed to return the collected amount. They allegedly telephoned his relatives demanding money by 10 am on Tuesday, failing which he would be killed. Reddy’s relatives approached the West Godavari SP. The police caught red-handed the alleged kidnappers and arrested them on Tuesday, Phani Kumar, CI said.
