Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government will soon formulate a new “solar energy policy” in a month to promote Rayalaseema region as hub of renewable energy generation. Under the new policy, the government would establish solar parks and adopt single window clearance system for the speedy approval of the setting up of power generation units by the private partners, State Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain said at a press conference here on Saturday. He said the government had identified suitable lands in Anantapur and Kurnool to establish the solar special economic zones (SEZs). Identification of land for setting up solar parks was also in progress in Kadapa and Chittoor.

Stating that the new policy was aimed at generating 5000 mw of solar power by 2019, the Ajay Jain said the Centre had already agreed to grant Rs 500 crore for solar parks. The power generation target would be attained in a phased manner. A unit with an installed capacity of 800 mw would be taken up in the first year, 1200 mw in second year and 1500 mw each would be established in the consequent two years (2016 and 2017), he said.

Ajay Jain said the NTPC would take up a unit with 1000 mw generation capacity and another unit with 1000 mw would be set up by NVVNL (NTPC's Vidyuth Vyapar Nigam Limited). The remaining 3000 mw of solar power projects would be taken up by inviting private partners engaged in the energy sector. The APSPDCL, the official's agency to implement the policy, had already invited tenders for establishing 500 MW, he added.

The new policy would allow the investors to submit their applications online only and the government would approve them in a week without any delay, he said. The energy companies, which were interested in the process, were required to quote tariff in the applications. The companies would be allowed to increase tariff by 3 per cent in the second year.
