Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) J V Ramudu, accompanied by a retinue of officers, has descended on Vijayawada. The sudden visit is not for some serious investigation or to apprehend terrorists or criminals. He has come here in search of a place to set up his office in the vicinity of Vijayawada.

Uncertainty still prevails over the location of the DGP’s office. The Andhra Pradesh government has reportedly not been able to make up its mind whether to establish the DGP’s office in Vijayawada or Mangalagiri in Guntur district.

A section of officers have suggested that the DGP’s office be set in Mangalagiri because infrastructure is readily available there. The office for the top cop can be set up on the premises of the Special Police Battalion headquarters. But the police officials are reportedly insisting on the DGP’s office being established in Vijayawada.

Ramudu, who has been inspecting various places for locating his office, has reportedly felt that Kurumaddali village in Krishna district is an ideal place for establishing the police headquarters. The news has delighted the villagers because location of offices in the village will promote development of infrastructure in the area. The DGP is likely to give his report to the government after inspecting some more locations, it is learnt.
