Tirumala: Presiding deity Lord Venkateswara Swamy was taken in a procession on the Golden Chariot at Four Mada streets on Wednesday evening, the sixth day of annual Brahmotsavam.

The newly-built, mighty 32-feet tall Swarna Ratham is first of its kind in the country. About 74 kg gold and 2,900 kg of copper were used to design this chariot. The TTD has spent over Rs 24 crore to design the new golden chariot. Malayappa Swamy gave darshan to his scores of devotees from atop the golden chariot.

Legend has it that the golden chariot is considered to be the favorite vehicle of Lord Venkateswara.

Mythology has it that the golden chariot of Lord Venkateswara is driven by four horses namely Sugriva, Shaibya, Meghapuspha and Valahaka with Daraka as his sarathi, the charioteer.



The darshan of Lord Venkateswara on his golden chariot is a memorable experience to all devotes. Many pious Hindus consider it once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the chariot festival as part of Brahmotsavams.

Executive Officer M G Gopal, JEOs K S Sreenivasa Raju, Pola Bhaskar, Deputy EOs C Ramana, Rama Rao, Additional CV&SO Sivakumar Reddy, Temple Peishkar R.Selvam and others were present.
