Hyderabad: Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India emphasised on the need to encourage the youth to take up agriculture for the second green revolution with a target of producing adequate grains with a vision towards 2020.

Dr. Kalam released a strategy paper on “Mission on Primary Sector of Andhra Pradesh” at Garudapuram village in Kalyanadurg Mandal of Anantapur district on Monday during the Janmabhoomi-Mavuru programme. He asked the government to improve irrigation facilities between Anantapur and Srikakulam.

Kalam advised Chandrababu Naidu to focus on improving irrigation sources in the drought prone Anantapur district. he hoped all parts of Anantapur would have irrigated sources in the next five years. He said that he would visit again after five years to see a green area in the region.

Recollecting his interaction with thousands of farmers over their experiences in agriculture, Kalam observed that farmers depend on the quality of seed, water and other facilities rather than subsidies to get quality produce.
