Puttaparthi: Police on Friday claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the murder of 75-year-old Australian woman Tony Anne Ludgate in Puttaparthi. Puttaparthi is considered to be a spiritual centre.

Ludgate went missing since September. The police arrested watchman of Sai Gouri Apartments at Vivekanandanagar here on the charge of murdering and burying the body of the Australian woman. The watchman, identified as Bhagavanth, had allegedly murdered the woman and stole the gold ornaments on her body.

The watchman, the police said, had killed the woman and buried her body on the outskirts of Maruvakuntlapalli village under Kothacheruvu mandal. The police also arrested two accomplices, identified as Nagaraju and Pothalaiah.

Ludgate arrived in Puttaparthi in the first week of July. She bought a flat in the apartment and lived there. She went missing in September. Her relatives from Australia made a complaint to the police when she did not answer their phone calls.

The Puttaparthi police registered “missing” case on September 23.
