Guntur: Farmers in the 29 villages under Tullur, Mangalagiri and Tadepalli mandals are a agitated lot as they fear of losing their fertile lands for the capital city. But Ministers P Pulla Rao and Ravella Kishore Babu and MLA Sravan Kumar, who are touring the village, claim that the farmers are willing to part with their lands. They say that the government will not grab the lands but acquire them under land pooling scheme.

Most of the farmers in the villages are opposed to the government's very idea of building the capital city on fertile lush green lands. But at the same time there are some who are convinced of government offer under the land pooling scheme. They feel that the package being offered by the government is beneficial to them. The farmers have decided to wait and see what would be the outcome of a meeting with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, scheduled to take place in the third or fourth week of November.

A section of farmers of Tulluru, Nelapadu,Rayapadu and Sakhamuru are willing to give up their lands, if a legally binding commitment is given to them along with an attractive package. They want a package which includes rehabilitation of families whose lands are acquired. Talari Nageswara Rao of Tulluru, speaking to The Hans India said he was not averse to parting with his land for capital city provided the government's package included a viable economic plan that would give them support for their livelihood. The demand that the government provide land for commercial purpose, apart from 1,000 square yards developed land per an acre given up by the farmers. Kankipadu Ramaiah, another farmer of the same village, expressed same sentiments. Another farmer of Rayapudi village Muthyalaraju stated that his family was not inclined to part with their land due to a sentimental attachment to it as it sustained them for generations. “Why government always wants to grab lush cultivated fields for every project and not to think of waste lands,” he wondered. He dismissed the factors like “vastu” as rubbish. The government should not rely on this irrational factor, he asserted.

Several farmers of Neerukonda, Velagapudi, Rayapudi, Kuragallu, Malkapuram, Lingayapalem and Mandadam villages have expressed reservations with regard to sacrificing their lands which are the only source of livelihood for generations.

The campaign against the government move by the opposition parties, particularly the YSRCP and Congress, has reinforced the farmers’ resolve not to give up their fertile lands.

They suspect some “sinister design” in the move to acquire fertile lands. Another section of farmers have decided to adopt adamant posture to get a better package.
