South India has always been a mirage for BJP. All these years, BJP tried its best to conquer South which has been the final frontier in its surge to power at the Centre, but failed miserably. Though it gained power in Karnataka, rampant corruption crushed its fort.

BJP cannot ignore South as Andhra Pradesh played a major role in giving Congress led UPA power not once but twice. Now with new leadership of PM Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah, the BJP is planning to conquer Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It feels bifurcation of state may present it a golden opportunity.

BJP in the 90s itself promised two states with one vote in Kakinada resolution and garnered public support. However, political compulsions forced it to enter into an alliance with TDP and rest is history. Now, with the good showing in the recent elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Modi and Amit Shah are concentrating on the two new states.

With Congress crushed out of power in the two states due to bifurcation and many leaders joining BJP, the party cadre is buoyant. YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is only making personal attacks and BJP is planning to strengthen the party in Andhra Pradesh. In Telagnana, people have soft corner right from the beginning as it supported separate statehood and already people are getting disenchanted with TRS. However, it remains to be seen how Amit Shah, master strategist and Modi, cool customer will deal with modern day Chanakya, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and wily politician and his Telangana counterpart and firebrand leader K Chandrashekar Rao.
