Speakers at the meet felt that without public cooperation, the menace of red sanders smuggling could not be wiped out while emphasising on sustained efforts to build up public opinion against red sanders smuggling. They said that the red sanders which was abundantly growing in Seshachalam forests was national wealth and every effort should be made to protect them.

Anantapur DIG Balakrishna said that the six Kalajathas through songs, drama and street plays would create awareness against red sanders smuggling, explaining in a touching manner the irreparable loss being caused by the smugglers to the forest wealth and also to the society. They would also dwell at length on the implications of involving in smuggling activities directly or indirectly, cautioning the public against lending any support to smugglers.

The DIG said the special awareness programme through Kalajathas would focus on Piler circle comprising Piler, KV Palli, Bhakarapet, Yerravaripalem and Rompicherla mandals adjoining the Seshachalam forests.

Observing that the police were getting more information on smuggling, he said any one could pass on information they come across on smuggling over phone (9440900004) to the police for immediate action.

Marking the occasion, the participants took oath to lend their support for protecting the forest and its wealth.

A host of officials from revenue, police and forest departments, including District Collector Siddharth Jain, Madanapalle Sub-Collector Karnan, DFO Chakrapani, Nagarajuna Reddy, SPs G Srinivas (Chittoor), Gopinath Jetti (Tirupati) were present.

Earlier, an impressive rally was taken out in the town in which students from various schools and colleges, public and employees from various departments including police and forest took part.
