The Andhra Pradesh government has on Friday appointed Chief Minister’s Medical Advisory Committee with 12 well-known expert doctors as members. The committee will advise Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in his efforts to set up medical institutions like NIMS, MNJ Cancer Institute, Niloufer Hospital and Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has on Friday appointed Chief Minister’s Medical Advisory Committee with 12 well-known expert doctors as members. The committee will advise Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in his efforts to set up medical institutions like NIMS, MNJ Cancer Institute, Niloufer Hospital and Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

The need for such institutions arose as all the prestigious institutions in medical and health sectors were allotted to Telangana State, although by virtue of their location.

The 12-member expert committee, which was set up following Naidu's directive, would give recommendations on the steps to be taken in the health sector of the State, a release said. The committee will frame guidelines for formulating a State Health Policy, and in the area of medical research and establishment of specialty hospitals.

The members of the committee include Dr Nori Dattatreyudu (radiation oncologist), Dr V. Srinath Reddy (formerly with AIIMS and founder of Public Health Foundation of India), Dr B Somaraju (cardiologist), Dr GN Rao (ophthalmologist), Dr Jagannath (surgical oncologist), Dr Nageshwar Reddy (gastroenterologist), MS K. Sujatha Rao (retired IAS), Prof Anupam Sibal (paediatric gastroenterologist), Dr Arun Singh (neonatologist), Dr Balamba (gynaecologist), Dr T Ravi Raju (nephrologist and V C of NTR Health University).

Principal Secretary to AP Health and Medical Department LV Subrahmanyam will be the Member-Convener of the committee.
