Red sanders worth `One crore seized

Kadapa: Forest officials seized huge quantity of red sanders logs worth more than Rs one crore near Kalumulopalle village at Bhakarapet forest area on the outskirts of Kadapa city on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Kadapa DFO Nagaraju said they have been checking vehicles since Sunday (December 7) following tip off about illegal transport and caught the lorry that was transporting the red sanders logs illegally. The smugglers in the lorry left the vehicle and fled after seeing the forest staff, he added. Nagaraju said that they got information that Venkata Subbaiah of Bhakarapet has links with the illegal transport of red sanders and taking steps to nab him.
