Vijayawada: Members of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) organised ‘1-K Walk’ from SRR & CVR Government College to the BSNL office at Chuttugunta on Wednesday to highlight the importance of protection of women’s rights. The walk was held to mark the International Human Rights Day.

Speaking on the occasion, AIDWA State vice-president K Swarupa Rani said that violence against women was continuing unabated in the country despite enactment of several laws to protect them. She said that strict enforcement of the laws, stringent punishment to the perpetrators of crimes against women in an expeditious manner and gender sensitization at all levels would help prevent crimes against women. Woman should be given ‘Right to Choice’ to lead her life without any restrictions from the parents, she opined.

Other AIDWA leaders who took part in the event underlined the need for collective efforts to uphold human rights and curb violence against women. AIDWA city secretary K Sridevi, city leaders V Lakshmi, Fathima, SFI city president T Praveen, women's wing convener T Rani and others were present.
