Nellore: United Muslim Minorities Federation (UMFF) president Mohammad Rafi said that government should immediately take up the construction works of the Minority Gurukul Boys Residential School in Ambapuram where the government allotted land. Speaking to the media here on Monday after submitting a memorandum to District Collector M Janaki, he said that the students were facing lot of inconvenience in the congested rooms of a building in Autonagar though they were paying a monthly rent of Rs 53, 903.

Rafi said that though the land was allotted for the construction of school building for the boys coming from Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts at Ambapuram in February 2008, works were not taken up till now. He said that though Rs 10.30 lakh was sanctioned for the construction of a compound wall and fencing through the AP State Minorities Finance Corporation in August 2010 and Rs 9 crore for the construction of a building, works have not begun yet even for the construction of a compound wall.

The UMMF president said that though there was no dearth of funds, the government somehow remained indifferent to the construction of the building. He bemoaned that the government did not take any steps to clear the legal hurdles in taking up the work during the last year and the case relating to the dispute of the Gurukul School land was still pending in the High Court. In a memorandum submitted to the Collector, he said that the district collector should take initiative in filing an expedite petition fast so that the dispute could be resolved and construction of the school building taken up.

He said that the Collector and the district officials concerned should focus on removing the legal and other types of hurdles to pave the way for taking up construction works.

Several leaders of the Minorities Federation like Maulana Azeez, Syed Allah Baksh, Riazuddin and others were present.
