Peddapuram (East Godavari): While the people across the country are reveling in New Year celebrations, Peddapuram residents are busy with centenary celebrations.

The municipality was formed on January 1, 1915 and it completed 100 years on Thursday. According to historical sources 18 kings ruled the town from 1555 to 1838. In the year 1839, the town went under the control of British and in 1915 it was upgraded into a municipality. Speaking to The Hans India on Thursday, municipal chairman Raja Suribabu Raju said that the centenary celebrations would be held on a large-scale in February.

He said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu would participate in the celebrations.

Incidentally the centenary celebrations would be held under the aegis of Raja Suribabu Raju, descendant of the Rajas who once ruled the town.
