Vijayawada: Members of the Youth Congress on Friday took out a massive protest rally from Gunadala to the sub-collectorate in the city, opposing the ordinance related to the Land Acquisition Act 2014.

The activists led by the Youth Congress president Devineni Avinash condemned the NDA government at the Centre for bringing out an ordinance withdrawing the powers of the farmers. The ordinance was a deliberate attempt by the NDA government to suppress the rights of the farmers, particularly the small farmers and the farm labourers. The provisions withdrawn by the Central government from the Act would do a lot of injustice to the farming community in the country, they said.

Addressing the activists, Avinash came down heavily on the NDA government for its anti-farmer policies. He said that withdrawal of the clauses of farmers’ consent in land acquisition was against the basic rights of the farmers who own the lands. He alleged that the NDA government in the past seven months had brought nine ordinances on different issues which expose the BJP’s lack of faith in democracy.

The Youth Congress leader appealed to the Members of Parliament to oppose the ordinance and protect the interests of the farmers. He also wanted the political parties to raise their voice against the ordinance and ensure that the interests of the farmers are protected.
