Vijayawada: A bride, who was to get married in a few hours, died when the car in which she was travelling crashed into the Krishna Eastern Branch (KEB) canal near Royyuru village in Thotlavalluru mandal on Wednesday. The tragic incident took place while the marriage party was on the way to the bridegroom's house in Guntur.

According to information, Allamsetti Balakumari alias Ammulu (29), the bride who was to enter into a wedlock with Anand of Guntur, left Challapalli by car with her maternal uncle Pathipati Somasekhar and his wife Padma Kumari, and their son Sunny (8) and her friend Naga Chandra.

The car driver lost control and crashed into the canal, resulting in instantaneous death of Ammulu and Naga Chandra due to suffocation. Her uncle and aunt were grievously injured in the incident, while their son Sunny was feared drowned in the canal. Somasekhar succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital. Padma Kumari, who suffered a leg fracture, was admitted to a private hospital.
