Katari Srinivasa RaoHyderabad: The split in the Lok Satta Party is complete. While the Lok Satta led by Jayaprakash Narayan has announced the names of Pattabhiramaiah as interim AP state president and Bheesetti Babji as interim AP state general secretary, the breakaway group led by Katari Srinivasa Rao and DVVN Varma declared that they were the real Lok Satta and that Katari would be the national president.

Jayaprakash Narayan said that he was upset with the behavior of senior party members who had gone public with internal matters and forced them to take disciplinary action. “No one is indispensable. The party is bigger than the individual and the nation is bigger than the party. Lok Satta will march ahead with momentum as the platform for the young people of India,” he said.

Lok Satta national president Surendra Srivastava expressed his anguish at the recent turn of events and said it had defamed the reputation of party. “This breach of decorum and discipline in public by my own Lok Satta brethren with whom we have worked over a decade has left me deeply aggrieved.”

He said unlike other political parties, Loks Satta enables debate and dissent to be expressed at umpteen internal party forums for all members and leaders alike. Despite all the available internal resources and unlimited access to JP and myself, senior party leaders have acted with indiscipline, he added.

Srivastava said he had invited Varma and Katari to stay at his residence in Mumbai and discuss and resolve differences amicably. He has himself travelled to Hyderabad and Guntur to reach an understanding and also invited them to join the national teams to steer the party in the right direction with their experience.

On the other hand Katari at a press conference alleged that Jayaprakash Narayana had promised to resolve the crisis but did nothing. He further said the constitution of steering committee and appointing Srivastava as the national president was illegal. Katari claimed that the AP unit, the biggest unit of the party with about 18000 members, had opposed the appointment of Srivastava as the national president but JP went ahead ignoring their plea.
