Special Category Status for AP: TDP, YSRCP Hope for Favourable Outcome. TDP and YSRCP, the two principal political parties in Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday participated in the all-party meeting convened by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu on the eve of ensuing Budget session of Parliament from Monday.
New Delhi: TDP and YSRCP, the two principal political parties in Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday participated in the all-party meeting convened by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu on the eve of ensuing Budget session of Parliament from Monday.
Both the parties expressed the hope that the budget would grant financial assistance to the state, including “special status.”
The TDP is the political ally of the BJP and also a partner in the Modi government.
Extending support to the ruling BJP, the TDP’s Parliamentary Party leader in Lok Sabha Thota Narasimham said, “We are hopeful that the government will consider granting special status to Andhra Pradesh and giving tax incentives on the line of one granted to Uttarakhand. We have also told the government that injustice has been done to the Andhra Pradesh as a result of bifurcation, it has no capital city, and there is a need to implement AP Reorganisation Act.”
The TDP will sail with the government and does not like to embarrass the government. But it should be seen how the TDP is going to react if “special status” is not granted to the state during the Budget Session of the Parliament which begins from Monday and lasts until 8 May.
Venkaiah Naidu sought the support of all the political parties for the smooth transaction of business. He also urged the opposition parties to help the government pass crucial bills, including an ordinance on Land Acquisition Act. Though YSR CP is the principal opposition party in Andhra Pradesh, it is not vehement in criticism against the BJP government at the Centre. YSR CP’s Parliamentary Party leader M Rajamohan Reddy said after attending that he was optimistic that the Centre would announce special package for backwards districts in Rayalaseema and northern coastal districts in the State. He demanded that the Union government implement the provision incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Act.
It is, however, to be seen whether the YSRCP would cooperate with the government in amending the Land Acquisition Act and pass the ordinance into act. The YSRCP has nine Lok Sabha members, while TDP has 16 Lok Sabha members and 6 Rajya Sabha members.
