ENTRY TAX ON VEHICLES FROM AP

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister S Raghava Rao on Thursday complained to Governor E S L Narasimhan about the Telangana State government imposing entry tax on transport vehicles from Andhra Pradesh coming to Telangana, with effect from April 1. The Minister called on the Governor and explained to him the difficulties being faced by the transporters in Andhra Pradesh. He told the Governor that Andhra Pradesh also could impose tax on vehicles coming from Telangana State, but they were exercising restraint.

Later, speaking to the media, Rao said that since Hyderabad was the common capital for both States, it was not proper on the part of Telangana government to levy the tax. He said the Telangana government was acting in a manner that caused hardships to Telugu people. The Transport Minister said if the issue was not resolved, the Andhra Pradesh government would take it up with the Centre. It may be recalled here that a large number of private bus operators from Andhra Pradesh suspended their services to Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana State in protest against the government’s decision to levy entry tax.
