A case of murder under Section 302 has been ordered by the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday in the encounter of 20 alleged smugglers in Chittoor forests in Andhra Pradesh earlier this week. The Court’s direction came in response to the petition filed by wife of one of the deceased from Thiruvannamalai district.

Seeking a re-postmortem on the body of her husband who was killed in the alleged encounter in Seshachalam Forests near Tirupathi on Tuesday, she came up for hearing before Justice M Sathyanarayanan.

Earlier, the Madras High Court refused to order for re-postmortem on the bodies of six alleged red sanders smugglers from Tamil Nadu and reportedly asked the petitioners to move an appropriate court in Andhra Pradesh.

Submitting a report stating that apart from bullet injuries, Sasikumar’s body also had cut marks, Counsel for the petitioner K Balu contented that chemicals were also spread on the body.

AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa on Thursday announced a relief of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the encounter. She also expressed doubts over the encounter and urged AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to initiate enquiry into the killings.
