Civil rights activists and lawyers from the Supreme Court on Friday staged a protest at AP Bhavan here against encounters in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. The civil rights activists and lawyers said there were five encounters in the Telangana State in which suspected terrorists were gunned down.

New Delhi: Civil rights activists and lawyers from the Supreme Court on Friday staged a protest at AP Bhavan here against encounters in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. The civil rights activists and lawyers said there were five encounters in the Telangana State in which suspected terrorists were gunned down. Twenty people red sanders woodcutters were killed in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

The activists termed the encounters in the Telugu states as “shameful” and demanded that cases against the police involved in these encounters be registered. Supreme Court Advocate Raghuram said, “The State government in Andhra Pradesh should conduct a judicial inquiry and book a case of murder against the police and Forest officials of Chittoor district.”

He said the crime committed by the officials was shameful and the State government should pay compensation to the families of those killed in the so-called encounter. It was the first time that there was a huge gathering of civil rights activists, lawyers and members from the National Association of People’s Alliance protesting against the Telugu states at the AP Bhavan.
