In a ghastly scene in the tobacco district of Andhra Pradesh a pack of street dogs mauled a six-year-old girl who was carrying lunch box for her mother, a farm labor working in a nearby field.


The incident which occurred at Kakamanu village, about 10 km from Guntur town has caused a massive public uproar after the news and visuals of the girl with battered face it appeared on news channels on Wednesday.


The district authorities have given a shoot at sight order at the stray dogs immediately. Police said that the deceased girl Sk. Kausara (6) was on her way to meet her mother who is working in the nearby field, when a pack of stray dogs attacked her and bit her on legs, stomach, head and face. The profusely bleeding victim was immediately shifted a hospital, where she succumbed to dog bites.


Furious with the death of girl, a village mob organized a dharna on Guntur-Kakumanu road along with the body. Top police and revenue officials rushed to the village to pacify the agitating villager as the road block had led to a major traffic jam on the road.


The village Sarpanch, Madhdusudhana Rao said that he brought a dog catcher team from Mangalagiri few months ago after the villagers complained about similar incident when the the victim - a young woman - was rescued from the pack. Interestingly, the Kakamanu village, where the incident took place, in the Prathipadu Assembly constituency, was being represented by Social Welfare minister R Kishore Babu.
