Hyderabad: With the High Court asking RTC unions to call off strike by Wednesday morning, a series of meetings took place between the RTC unions and the cabinet sub-committee of Telangana. Similarly, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet, which met here for over seven hours, also spent considerable time discussing the strike issue and blamed the TS government for unilateral decisions it was taking with regard to fitment.

While the Telangana cabinet sub-committee indicated to the RTC employees that it was willing to give 40 per cent fitment and appealed to them to call off the strike, AP government feels that it would leave them with no option but to follow suit. The AP government feels that if it accepts 40 per cent fitment then it would be forced to hike the bus fare and that could go against the government particularly when it is about to complete one year in office.

Telangana RTC Union general secretary K Padmakar said that they had put forth their arguments before the High Court, saying how their agitation had become inevitable. “It has been 25 months since we were promised the pay hike, but it is yet to be implemented. Now when we are demanding 43 per cent, the management appears to be in a mood to agree for 40 per cent,” he said.

APSRTC Managing Director Nanduri Sambasiva Rao said that he had briefed the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Sub-Committee on the current situation and possible way forward to end the impasse between the employees and management. Meanwhile, the management on Tuesday could operate only 60 per cent of its scheduled services in AP and 40 per cent in Telangana.

But unlike the situation in twin cities like Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Monday, when 45 per cent of urban services were on road, the number of buses plying on the roads of the twin cities on Tuesday was far less.
